How is mold removed from a home?
We are moving into a home that was built in the 1920's, remodeled in the 1970's, and made to resemble a Colorado cabin-not a log cabin, however. There is a lot of greenery-trees, vines, flowers, and ground cover-with a drip system up close to the base of the wood on the house. The walls of a bathtub/shower combo are lined with wood that has been treated with a marine sealer, and has black mold. The home had a water leak for 2 weeks in February before it was discovered. It is just now being de-humidified. There is obvious black mold in a closet, on wood flooring, behind the washer and dryer, yellow mold in a bathroom storage closet. This home has not been lived in for two years, and we have rented it from our friends. They have been quite cooperative, and accomodating, and we will be getting an evaluation, recommendation, repair-within monetary reason. My question is this: What will be used to eradicate as much of the mold as possible and what can we do to treat any recurring mold?

How much should we charge our roommate?
We have a 2400 square feet house with a large fenced backyard in a nice quite neighborhood area.
My husbands friend wanted to move in with us because he lkes company of other people, otherwise we werent looking for a roommate.
Anyway, he uses everything in the house, utilities, has his own room, his own full bathroom, storage, uses our washer and drier and detergents, free interntet, also he uses our storage space and garage. He has dinners at our table everynight and helps himself to everything we have in our fridge. We are charging him about 400 a month and our mortgage is about 1200 a month. Once in a while he cuts our grass and pays for my husbands lunch about once every two weeks.
Do you think 400 is too pricey or too low??
I just have a feeling that our grocery bill has increased by about 150-200 a month as he eats more than me and my husband combined.

What factors are included in an Estate Agents valuation of a property?
Yesterday, I went to look at a property near Erith & Slade Green, in Kent. When I got there I found out that it needed a lot of work, (new kitchen, bathroom, storage heaters, double glazing and general decorating). It also has a very short lease of only 64 years, and it will cost £10,000 to renew the lease.
The property is a ground floor flat, purpose built in a block, with a garage. It is quite near to a busy main road. Properties around there seem to be selling for about £135,000 - £140,000 in tip top condition. The property is up for £125,000.
I have made a final offer of £115,00, which I think is good. What do you all think? I believe that it was over priced in the first place, but the estate agents deny this.
Sorry, I meant to say that I had offered £115,000.

Is a central AC more energy efficient than window ACs?
Hi there.
We have 4 window ACs (3 used daily) to cool 6 rooms, our kitchen, living room, my room, bathroom, storage room, and parent's bedroom, (1-story) in the house. It cools very well. but I am questioning the energy efficiency of the window ACs.
My parents were thinking of getting a central AC, but it comes quite costly considering how they would have to install it. But, if I can convince them if it is more energy efficient than the window ACs we have, then they will most likely get it installed.
So, would the switch from window ACs to a central AC be better than the current setup energy-wise? What companies do you recommend we purchase/quote from? What products/central ACs would you recommend?
Thanks a lot,
Jared

need bathroom storage idea for under vanity?
i have a long vanity in my bathroom with a sink on one side with a cabinet underneath with doors. The other side is simply vanity space and open space between the counter and the floor. I guess it was originally for a vanity stool or something. The area is 24 in high, 30 in wide and 18 inches deep. I would like to store extra towels/soap/washcloths/toilet paper, etc. I could just put a large basket there, but I really wanted a shelf/drawers, or something. Help!!!!!!! And thanks for thinking about it......

Moving-in Etiquette? What does rent actually buy you?
My boyfriend and I are in the process of moving to save some money. We are going from our apartment, to renting from his mother (divorced, just her in the house). We are renting the entire lower level (2 large bedrooms, living room, full bathroom, storage room, foyer).
Maybe I'm crazy... but its my understanding that since we are going to be paying rent, that we can pretty much put anything anywhere we want. (With consideration, Im not talking about putting holes in the walls)... but she is going crazy. She is far too controlling... he may be her son, but we are not children.
For example, our bathroom downstairs is for us.. and even when he and I put the toilet paper one way, she'll go in when I'm gone and switch it so that the paper falls from behind. I think thats CRAZY!!! She has 2 bathrooms upstairs to have the toilet paper the way she wants it... why the hell does she go into our bathroom and change it??
She needs our rent, since she is divorced and lives on spousal support.
Um... I thought that paying rent means we sort of "buy" our freedoms. We arent just guests... we will actually live there too.. and she has to respect the boundaries we put.
Am I wrong? How do I confront her?
I am torn because yes, she is his mother. So she's family... but she is also a landlord.
Things like.. she sometimes uses the shower in our bathroom downstairs because she likes the water pressure better... but does this mean I have to be careful what I put in my medicine cabinet because she'll just open and take a look??
Rawr...
He helps stand up to her.. like he and I installed new locks on the bedrooms downstairs, and she demanded to have a key, in case like the fire alarms go off or something... and he said that she is not allowed to go in our rooms without our permission for any reason. Like she has to go through my closet to get to the back storage room to get to the furnace, and if she were to need to, she is required to call either of us.
To be fair... its not her house either. SHE is renting it from her niece.
The house is like this: upstairs is ground level, her bedroom, her office, her full bathroom, huge living room, the kitchen, a half bathroom, and the laundry room.
the downstairs is partially ground level and part basement and the rooms I listed above, like the 2 bedrooms and living room.. were completely empty. it is space she wasnt even using
